Alternatively, if you can live with manual focus and use a tripod,
consider a mirror lens. Sigma 600/8 is optically better than the
75-300 with 2x tc, manual focusing is slow but accurate, and it only
costs some US$350 new. Out-of-focus highlights appear as rings
which may or may nor bother you, depending...
