Can anyone tell me the difference between a Canon 2x converter and a generic
2x converter, such as Tamron or Jessops?? And the huge difference in price?
This may be a silly question to some, no doubt...
Is it something obvious such as there being a big difference with the
quality of the optics.
I hear the autofocus may be affected as well. Could somebody tell me why? I
use an EOS 600 with a 75-300mm zoom.
Many thanks.
Sean
=====================
Hi Sean !
First off, I wouldn't recommend using a 2X tele-converter on your 75-300mm
lens (Be it Canon or Jessops !)
Converters are best used on good quality "Prime lenses" or on high quality
zooms (Like the 70-200mm f/2.8L or the 100-400mm "IS" L), Converters just
magnify the central portion of your lens, And as well as magnifying your
subject they will also magnify any flaws in the lenses optics, But after
saying that there is no real reason to stop you trying them and passing
judgement on your results (Suck it and see !) you may well be happy with the
results !
And as to why the big difference in price between the Canon converters and
other independent manufactures the answer is what you guessed (Yes there is
a big difference in the optics !)
