I am about to buy the D30 this month. I know about 3 of Lance's points but 'No TTL flash?" I plan on using the D30 with the ST-E2 wireless controller and three 550ex units on hummingbirds at a pretty much fixed focus distance. The lens will be the EF300/2.8L IS. Is the point here simple TTL vs evaluative TTL flash? I thought the D30 did ETTL with the Canon wireless system and even with its little built in flash. Is this not so? Is the D30 so slow at focusing that this will be a problem even at a fixed distance. There will still be some focusing required . . . the birds appear at about a distance ranging from 5 to 5 1/2 feet from my set up. I am having second thoughts now but I would sure like to get instant results rather than waiting for slides to come back. Most are immediately trashed in any event making for high film/processing costs. Also that offer of a free 340 Mb micro drive until June 30 is attractive. But not if the camera is not up to the job! -- Terence A.
