The modification required to use the 6V QB1 with the EOS Speedlight is a
bodge. If you can, buy the Turbo battery pack, or buy the Canon battery
pack, they provides a high voltage supply to a speedlight and uses the
connector socket.

If you still want to use the 6V battery pack, ignore the velcro straps, take
a hacksaw and file to the battery cover and make a neat hole for the cable.
With a little effort you can make the cable enter the flashgun and get the
cover to close with a close fit.

I have done this mod to a 540EZ and a 550EZ. This is a drastic step, you
reduce the resale value to zero and probably invalidate the warranty.
