Most of the time, yes, but sometimes you just can't use a tripod.
I've taken landscape shots from a boat with no stable surface, from
airplane window, from top of a mountain where it was hard enough to
carry a camera at all - extra weight of a tripod would've killed me
during the climb (although admittedly it would've been useful there).

Agreed - although again, there are exceptions. For example, sometimes
an island can only be shot from either a moving boat (without tripod!)
or with long focal length.
