London isn't exactly a backwater, when it comes to photographic supplies. I'd
bring a few days' supply with me, have it developed there, and purchase more
when that runs out. My experience visiting London three years ago, was that
processing was more expensive than I was used to (at Jessop's), but they did a
fine job on the prints, and gave me another roll of film with each one I had
processed ("Colourama", actually Agfa). I think I came home with more film
than when I left.
For slides, I brought Kodachrome with me, and brought it home un-processed,
but figured the x-ray equipment wouldn't bother that relatively slow film.
Peter is right about Heathrow: If you want that film to go with you, it goes
through the machine. I think part of the reason it's not a problem, is that
the film canister is made of metal, which shields the film. APS might be a
different story.
