Hi!
Something occurred to me yesterday when I was supposed to be thinking of
something else...
So here's the stupid question:
I've been meaning to buy a red filter for my EOS 50 f1.4 for a while, and
got to wondering whether having a red filter over a lens would negate the
effect of the AF assist light on my EOS 5. The AF assist works by projecting
a red/infrared pattern onto the subject, and red filters block the red end
of the spectrum (I may be wrong here, physics was never my strong point).
Therefore the AF assist light will be useless when the red filter is
attached.
This is kind of a pointless question, as I would probably never use a red
filter in situations where it is so dark that AF assist is required or
useful, just kind of interested. I'm probably also hoping that my 3 years of
science in school all those years ago weren't a total waste.
Thanks in advance for your answers and patience with a science-challenged
photographer
