Anybody have experience/feedback about this lens? I know the amount
of soft effect is variable - but to what extent? - and I *think* you
can clear it. Photodo gives it a 3.9 which is pretty sharp, but the
concensus in the "Lens Performance Survey", albeit only 7 inputs, is
that it is "poor" wide open and "very good" stopped down. I haven't
gone and studied the MTF graphs at photodo yet. Built quality is
described as "not so good." But I take all of this with a grain of
salt. You guys, OTOH, I trust blindly and devotedly! ;-)
Reason I'm asking is that there's one for sale at a local minilab for
$275, which *seems* pretty good price. I already have the 28-135 IS,
but I am indeed interested in portraiture - I'm wondering if this lens
would add an instrument to my repertoire worth having. I doubt I
would ever use the really blurred effects, but if it is able to soften
by degrees that might be interesting, and if it is good "cleared" I
love the 135 length.
Thanks as always
