I just received my Elan 7E today (from B&H, great service, as I expected from their
reputation). I have some initial impressions:

* The camera seems a lot better built than my old (1997) Rebel XS.
* ECF calibrated very easily and seems to work OK (while I have not had any serious
picture taking yet, in playing around with it, it seems to track my eye well, even
though I wear glasses and squint through the viewfinder.)
* AF doesn't seem to be any faster than the Rebel XS, but maybe its just my cheap lens
(Canon 35-80/4-5.6 III). (I'm thinking of getting a 50, but I can't decide between
the cheaper 50/1.8 and the better built 50/1.4. I suppose either lens would perform
much better.)
* I also got the remote release RS-60E3. The little plastic plug in the camera that
you insert into the end of the release is annoying. I can virtually guarantee that I
will lose it, because I can imagine that little thing flying out of my hands on
removing it from the camera.
* I like the quick control dial. Manual mode is so much easier with it.
* The wide strap is much nicer than the narrow strap that came with the Rebel XS.
