I tested several rolls of Provia 400f slide film last month, pushed to 800, and 1600. It is excellent. Several event shots run at ISO1600 were picked up by a magazine and have reproduced very well. I honestly can't pick it as pushed film. Like you said, it is great to suddenly have that flexibility with settings.
