I think Nikon's reputation is not totally deserved.
I've seen plenty of Nikon pics, in magazines, on the
web, and live and in person, that have washed out,
overexposed subjects.
I think the Canon system is more easily fooled by off
center subjects and unusually bright/reflective items
in the frame. Nikon's is more easily fooled by
unusually bright or dark subjects, and by items in the
forground of the picture which reflect light.
Neither is perfect, and (like everything else to do
with photography), the best results come from a
phtographer who understands his/her equipment and it's
limitations. And yes, it ALL has limitations, no
matter what the brand or how complicated the electronics.
