The 620 was the top-of-the-line EOS at the time and instantly became the
big brother to the 650. The EOS 1 had not yet been brought out. I
happen to have a February 1988 Modern Photography, and I quote, "In
designing the EOS 620, an autofocus SLR aimed primarily at knowledgeable
photographers and pros..."

In terms of absolute features compared to more modern EOS cameras, it's
a mixed bag. The 620 has one or two things that newer EOS cameras leave
out and it's missing quite a few things we now take for granted.

Cool stuff:
Long exposures do not drain the battery at all!
x-sync: 1/250 sec
LCD Illuminator
Lots of metal in its construction!

Not-so-Cool Stuff
Only one AF sensor!

The 650 would probably be placed around the Elan, it's much more camera
than a Rebel.
