The Sept 2000 EOS magazine ran an article on infrared photography with
EOS cameras.  It included a list of "Problem-Free", "Small problem"
and "Bigger problem" cameras with regard to IR film.  

Only the Rebel II is on the "Small problem" list.  The rest of the
Rebels are on the "Bigger problem" list.  The Elan IIe is on the
"Bigger problem" list.

I agree with the advice given in the article:  Try it and see.  You
haven't much to lose.
