Hi Jakob,

If I were you I would send the Rebel in for a repair. Is the battery new?
Check the contacts and see if there is any problem there as well.

IMO, I wouold opt for a newer SLR body.  Why go backward, when for not mcuh 
more you can get an Elan II or Rebel 2000 at very good used prices.
