after reading this list for some time now, and losing count of all the
favorable reviews I've read about the 28-135IS, I went out and purchased
one yesterday to replace my fuzzy 28-105USM.

however, I ran into an issue and after reading the "EOS 620?" thread. I'm
a little concerned:

I had just put the lens on, loaded up a fresh roll of velvia and started
taking pictures. after shot #6 on the roll, I switched on IS. but before I
was able to take a shot, someome came up to me and started chatting (he
had an EOS 650 around his neck). he noticed the IS on my camera and wanted
to take a look at it. I said sure, and wanted to grab a shot quick before
the clouds moved away. I put the camera up to my eye, held the shutter
button halfway down to meter the scene, and heard what sounded like a
mirror slap - but the mirror didn't slap.

I checked the top of the camera and "bc" was blinking at me. seemed
strange, as this battery was only about 15 rolls old. my first thought was
that IS just sucked the battery dry while I was chatting with the 650
owner. regardless, I ran back to my truck and got a new battery. popped it
in and had the same problem. when I turned the camera on, I heard some
movement, and "bc" blinked on the display. so I took the lens off and
turned the camera back on - same problem. the mirror didn't move at all,
and it almost sounded like the film was advancing. but the counter didn't
show that. I cleaned the contacts, tried the other battery, my 50mm 1.8,
and the 28-135IS again. all the same problem.

now very concerned, I apologized to the gentleman I was talking to and
raced down to my local camera shop. they couldn't figure it out either.
until one person thought to manually flip the mirror up to check the
shutter planes behind it. suddenly it started working again.

did my 3 just hiccup? is there some remote possibility that the 28-135IS
caused a brainfart somewhere? I was able to shoot the rest of the roll
(missed the sunset though, damnit) with no problems, even with IS on.
