Frankly, considering the price of a Canon 1.4x extender (which as you note won't
work on this lens anyway) just to get a 40-100/4 zoom, you'd probably be better
off spending a little more and going with the EF 100/2 . . . or spending quite a
bit more for the 135/2L. :-)
Indeed, KEH currently has four 100/2s for under $400, and one 200/2.8L II for
$500.
