Hi Tim,

Unfortunately if all you are willing to use is consumer print films then you
may be stuck.  Most consumer print films are higher contrast to improve
apparent image quality.  If you are loosing low level detail in shaded areas
of your images you may want to try some of the "pro" low contrast "wedding"
or "portrait" films.  This is assuming that your processing and printing are
not at fault.
