Okay. Sorry to keep harping on about this, but there seems so much
damned conflicting information about this...
It's been mentioned here several times that cameras such as the
Rebel II S are a bad choice for infrared, because the pressure plates
on these cameras all have cutouts for date backs, regardless of
whether the camera in question actually has a date back or not. And
these cutouts are said to result in shadowing on Kodak HIE film,
because of differences in the amount of light reflected back from the
pressure plate. (since HIE lacks an anti-halation layer.)
I just checked an Elan. It has a cutout for the date despite not
having a date back, and I used it successfully last year with HIE.
There's fogging from the IR diode, to be sure, but there are no
cutout notch shadows on the negatives.
Has anyone actually *experienced* this problem of cutout shadows
appearing on HIE? Or is it just someone guessing it might be a
problem? What were the circumstances if you had this problem? Thanks!
