Maybe yes, maybe no ;-) While what you say is true, the macro is especially
corrected for macro range, modern macro lenses don't suffer at infinity as
much as macros used to do some decades ago. Most - if not all - macro lenses
of modern design fare better at infinity than they do in macro range. Still,
there should be some compromise made for the extra quality in macro range.
OTOH the 50/1.8 design needs some compromises for the f/1.8 aperture ...
So the judge is probably still out between the two 50mm lenses.
