Hi Andrew,

I had problems with a Sigma 170-500 zoom & my Eos 3.
The lens refused to focus and the focus lock led just kept flashing.

All sorted once the lens was re-chipped.

Not sure about any potential exposure problems as a consequence of
the incompatibility, as soon as I was aware of the focusing problem, the
Lens was on its way for chipping.
