A 300/2.8 for CANDIDS? The lens is large enough to justify putting wheels on it for 
support (ok, a bit exagurated, but...)! You'll need a one-meter safety-zone around you 
so that you won't knock people out, and as Ken Durling pointed out, you'll need to 
stand across the street to do upper-body portraits...

You'd be better off with a 135/2 and/or a 200/2.8 with a 1.4x TC...
BTW, you can buy appx. four 200/2.8s for the price of ONE 300/2.8!
