Hi Gbor,

The EOS 50 is capable of flash exposure compensation. There is
a button the back of the camera which can select the FEC mode.
You should be able to twiddle the control dial to select the
amount of FEC.

See:

BUT There are other ways to do FEC if your camera and/or flash does
not have FEC. E.g. if you use a REBEL :-)

One way is ISO indexing, which is a bit cumbersome, but has been
described in the EOS FAQ, but will work on Type A and Type B bodies.
http://www.geo.tu-freiberg.de/docs/eos-faq/3flash.html#q9

Another way for Type A bodies is to use FEL deliberately on something
that is NOT mid-toned. Works better if shooting with print film:
e.g. FEL on a WHITE target will give LESS flash exposure (usually -2EV)
e.g. FEL on a BLACK target will give MORE flash exposure (usually +2EV)

e.g. Applying FEL while metering and shooting from different
distances. Here's how to use this previously undocumented
method:

e.g. if you intend to shoot at 4m (flash to subject distance),
FEL first at 2.0m then shoot at 4m will result in -2EV FEC
FEL first at 2.8m then shoot at 4m will result in -1EV FEC
FEL first at 5.6m then shoot at 4m will result in +1EV FEC
FEL first at 8.0m then shoot at 4m will result in +2EV FEC

Hey those numbers are just in the sqrt(2) sequence from the
aperture scale! Quite easy to remember.

OR, a simpler way to remember FEL for -2/3 FEC on "usual" group
snapshots is the "REBEL FEC dance". Take two small steps forward,
apply FEL, then take two smalls steps back, focus and meter for
background and shoot :-)

Cheers
Julian Loke
