Whatever you say, if the sensor is e.g. 3 megapixels, you can only make
the resolution *worse*, never better. WIth film, our EOS cameras can
benefit from new, improved films. Like we just did with Provia F some
time ago.

If I were a press photographer, I would already have switched. But for exactly
these reasons above, I can't justify switching, neither economically nor
quality wise. As quality is not only limited by film/sensor resolution, but
also by the lens resolution, a system using lenses optimized for a much
bigger image circle will never be optimal for a small, digital sensor.
The EOS system IMHO either needs a camera with a full size 35mm format
digital sensor or additional lenses, optimized for the smaller sensors.
This would also make possibe to have true super wide angles for those
digital cameras.
I had a 5mm lens for my CCD cameras, even 3mm were available. With the very
small quarter inch sensor the 5mm still was not an extreme super wide angle.
But hell, this lens was almost a fish-eye, I wouldn't really call it
rectilinear ;-) It may be possible to make true, rectilinear superwides
for smaller sensors, though. I'm not expert enough to judge the potential
of such lens designs.
