I didn't pick my first EOS equipment -- my husband did. He did not do any
research, but he went to a local full-service camera shop and told the owner
that he wanted to buy a camera so I could take better ice hockey pictures.
The owner told him that the Rebel 2000 was the
best entry-level SLR for sports/action photography, so on Christmas morning,
surprise, surprise, that's what I got. (It was the kit with the 28-80 lens,
and my father bought me the 75-300 lens.)

I see the Rebel advertised on TV (the Andre Agassi commercials that
emphasize how easy it is to use and the quality of the photos), but don't
recall seeing any other SLRs advertised on TV. I wouldn't expect to -- it's
a pretty narrow market, and TV commercials are overkill for all but an
entry-level camera. For high-end equipment, I'd be surprised to see it
anywhere but a photography magazine.
