I don't think that it can do flash compensation by itself, either.  If you
have a 550EX, then you can set compensation there.  Otherwise, you need to
fiddle with adjusting the film speed and regular exposure compensation.
It's awkward, but it ends up having the same effect.  I seem to recall
seeing a writeup somewhere on photo.net.
