Hi,
This was my concern too a first, but what happens in reality, is that the 
fact that while tension ring does move it doesn't loose it's level of tension 
that you selected. Only thing is that position of the words-directing which 
way to twist it to achieve either point changes. So, it could have been done 
better, so it wouldn't move with MF ring, but...Canon didn't think of it, or 
it would be more expensive to make.
So, I learn to live with this little annoyance.
