Hi list,
I bought a Canon EF 20-35/3.5-4.5 lens about a week ago. You helped me sort
out a tight lens hood problem, but I've got another one.
What worries me is that the lens elements play a little. What I mean is that
they're a tiny little bit looser than I expected. To make it clear: take the
lens itself, put it in your hand rear down and face up, take the front cover
off. Now if I look down into the lens and move the uppermost ring or the
focal length ring sideways, I notice a play of about 0.5mm. It may sound
crazy, but it does worry me.
What actually worries me is that the play is so pronounced. My 28-80 or my
friend's 28-105 play the same amount or even slightly more, but the play on
these lenses is 'softer', where mine goes as if 'knock, knock'.
I don't know whether my description makes any sense to you, but I'd be
grateful if other 20-35 users shared their experience with me. I want to
know whether what I see on my lens is normal or I should go on worrying.
Thanks in advance,
Maciek
