It will be interesting to see if this hold true.  Chip Louie 
confirmed the Photodo MTF numbers showing that the introduction of IS 
to the 300/4 lens did detract from its image quality.  But in that 
case the optical system may have been redesigned.

Also interesting to note the added feature of rounded aperture blades 
to f5.6.  I wonder if Canon heard the complaints about the 100-400 IS 
bokeh?
