It will be interesting to see if this hold true. Chip Louie
confirmed the Photodo MTF numbers showing that the introduction of IS
to the 300/4 lens did detract from its image quality. But in that
case the optical system may have been redesigned.
Also interesting to note the added feature of rounded aperture blades
to f5.6. I wonder if Canon heard the complaints about the 100-400 IS
bokeh?

Dan,
Following your trend of thought, Photodo does indicate that the addition of
IS to the 400/2.8 did not at all lower its MTF rating. This 'newer
generation' of IS has probably changed any 'problems' with the 300/4L IS.
There also have been posts on the list attesting to the 300/2.8L IS being
even sharper than the non-IS version.
As for me, I'm just hoping list members will offer their non-IS 70-200s on
this list first when they get around to purchasing the IS version.
