Im currently looking into buying a flash for my Canon A2E. A couple of
weeks ago I was in New York and stopped by B&H Photo. I told a guy at the
counter that I had an A2E and I wanted to get a flash because the built-in
flash is often blocked by a lens or lens hood. I also wanted a higher
quality flash. He recommended the 540EZ. I explained that I had a Sigma
17-35mm lens and I wanted a flash like the 550EX that could cover 17mm.
(The 550EX was designed with the EOS-3 in mind, but is "compatible" with
all EOS cameras.) He said that the 550EX has the wrong technology for the
A2/A2E. The flash I should get is the 540EZ besides the wide-angle flash
coverage is only 1mm off. I know that one of the features of the 550EX is
that it has E-TTL but the A2/A2E doesnt support that. I still havent
bought any flash.

I know that a 17mm lens is 104 degrees of view. Does anyone know the
degrees of view for an 18mm lens so that I could determine a difference?

Is the 540EZ more compatible with the A2/A2E than the 550EX?
Is the 540EZ better matched for the A2/A2E than the 550EX?
