OK, some of you may have seen this on one or two of the Usenet groups,
and I decided to go for it, since the fellow is offering a full refund
guarantee, and I liked the tone of his post. Seems very on the level
in private e-mail ,too.
It's a Tamron Adaptall 90mm f/2.5 Macro lens for $80, and as the
seller says, the catch is:
>The catch is that the coating on the front element appears to be damaged
>somewhat. Not end-of-the-world/"oh shoot, it's wasted" damaged but there is
>what appears to be a streak in the coating. It looks like maybe somebody used
>an improper cleaning agent on the front of the lens. The defect does not cover
>the whole element but just a portion of it.
>
>Does it matter? Frankly I could never discern any image degragation due to the
>streak but I suspect it would rear its ugly head in a severely backlit
>situation.
So I've bought it, and should be gettin git in a week or so. I'll
have time to run a couple of rolls of film through it. Do you think
he's right about the back-lit situation? How could I set up a test?
I plan to shoot in some flare-prone situations, some high and low
contrast shots, some high-detail shots under lights, etc. I'd
welcome suggestions for any other tests and ways to find out if I
should send it back or if I got a pretty good little deal.
Tell me what you really think.
Ken
