Hi Ken,
I'm fairly certain the "B" designation in the FD line was for "bayonet," to
distinguish from the earlier style used on the "R" series and possibly some "FL"
lenses as well; I don't really know what these used but wasn't it some kind of
set-screw arrangement, or an adapter ring of some sort? In any case, the bayonet
hood attachment is pretty much uniform across the FD line (excepting those with
built-in hoods, of course), including both breech-lock and "new-mount" lenses.
By the time the EF line was introduced, there probably wasn't any percieved need
to indicate whether or not the hood had a bayonet-type mount--it was more
important to differentiate between FD and EF hoods.

The ET-65 for one (85/1.8, 100/2, and one or two others), and personally I think
it sucks. I MUCH prefer the bayonet type.
