Well speaking as a photojournalist, a 3MP camera would be more than I'd
need. The Nikon D1H probably the most popular digital camera among
newspapers is less than a 3MP. I rarely need to scan pictures larger than
2.5MP's for the paper. For sports and spot news type items, it's more about
fps and autofocusing speed. Of course, durability is a concern as well. As
far as having different models for professional cameras, it's no different
than what nikon and kodak have done. The d1H and 620(520 for canon) vs the
d1X and the 660(560 for Canon) to answer the need of a performance camera
vs a higher resolution studio type camera. It would only make sense that
Canon would want to offer competitive, if not superior, cameras to go up
against the other manufacturers.
