Hello.
Has anyone encountered this problem with the 28-135mm IS USM lens. Just
yesterday it started to stick when zooming from 28mm to 135mm. When it
reaches approximately 30mm it sticks. It will continue on with a little
coaxing, but when it passes that point again it makes clicking noises. As
soon as the lens is innactive for a few minutes, the same thing happens.
This only happens when going from 28 towards 135, not the reverse direction.
This is upsetting because this is the second lens of this type I have
received. I took the first one back because it had "stuff" in between the
first two elements. This lens is less than 1 month old. The store will
not take this one back because it is beyond their warranty and because I
have filled out the warranty card it is now a Canon issue. I have talked
to a few people at Canon at the Factory service center and all they could
say was I had to bring it in/send it in. Unfortunately, I did need this
lens for this weekend. The response they gave to me was that if I am not a
registered professional (working for a newspaper), it is just a first come
first served consumer repair.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this same problem with this
lens. The factory service guy even made the comment to me that Canon did
not do a very good job with sealing this lens. I am not sure if he was
just referring to the first lens I had or all of them in general.
Anyway, I have only owned my EOS3 and two lenses for a month. This is my
first contact with Canon service. I hope this type of treatment is not
indicative of what might happen in the future.
Anyway, like I said, I am just curious if anyone else has had this happen.
Thanks.
Mike
