Terry, if you re-read the section you'll see it is a reference to using
PRINT film not slides. Of course you're quite right in saying overexposure
lessens saturation in transparencies.

I'm not a technical expert (good grief! ;-) ), but I think its something to
do with moderate overexposure of a print film creating a denser neg and
therefore greater colour saturation.
