This is my approach to increasing colour saturation also - slight under
exposure with trannies and a not quite so slight overexposure with print
film. As stated, the denser negative is better for extracting colour.
Another issue with professionals shooting for magazines is that they prefer
a slightly overexposed image as it looses a bit during reproduction. This
has nothing to do with saturation. I shoot for several magazines regularly
and always rate Provia 100f at ISO 80 for this purpose, bracketed of course.
All the other staff and freelancers I know do similar.
