Some photographers feel that Velvia's true speed to be at ISO 40 (but of
course Fuji rated
it at ISO 50 on the box). Photographers (incluing myself) rate Velvia at ISO
40 (sometimes
even ISO32) for better saturation, not for more saturation.
At ISO 32, the shutter speeds even on fair weather is often too slow
(especially with
Canon's metering which favours under-exposure) for comfort, hence I seldom
touch Velvia
(VELVet medIA).

I agree. ISO 40 is the ISO if you use the camera's TTL metering which is
reflective and will have more a tendency to overexpose by 1/3 stop. When I
use Velvia with handheld metering I use ISO32. At ISO50 you will get soo
much contrast and underexposure you might as well not even process the film.
Of course older SLR that use average metering can use ISO 50 as the
overexposure factor is near 1/2 stop putting the exposure between ISO32 and
ISO40. I post this information from experience not documentation. For me
the best film on the market these days is Provia 100F for colors and 400F
when I need more speed.
