I was taking a look at some of my lenses this last weekend and noticed, when
looking through them at a lamp, that some of them (particularly my 50mm f1.8
MkII and my 100mm f2.8 macro) had a good bit of dust internally. I have not
noticed any deterioration of image quality from them and from searching
through photo.net am inclined to believe that this is probably 'normal' for
lenses. There were even suggestions that a high % of new lenses from quality
manufacturers like Nikon and Canon have dust in them and not to fret. I
suspect that the macro lens may be prone to this because of the non-internal
focusing mechanism.

Just curious, have the folks on this list checked to see if their lenses have
accumulated dust? Do you feel that this type of accumulation has no effect
on image quality? Do you ever get the lens professionally cleaned
internally, and if so, when? Do you routinely check new lenses for dust like
this and return them if it is present?

What is the scop on internal lens dust?
