Results can be quite good with such a setup, especially if you use
something like a LumiQuest UltraSoft or SoftBox to increase the size of the
direct light source. A 16x20 Chimera is even better ... Using 540s with
an 8 foot ceiling, I had reasonable luck with a SoftBox and the diffuser
panel extended on the direct flash. I haven't yet tried it with 550s, so I
can't comment on the optimum direct/bounce ratio settings.

With my improvised bracket for the bounced flash, the setup was manageable
but sufficiently unwieldy (especially with Quantum Turbo or Lumedyne power
sources) that I seldom used it. With 550s and the lack of sync cords, the
setup would be much easier to use as well as set up. AA lithium batteries
will make a noticeable reduction in weight.

With 550s, situation permitting, I'd prefer to use the bounced flash as an
off-camera slave to make the setup more manageable. But again, I haven't
tried it since getting 550s.
