This is an excellent suggestion. Will try as soon as I get to it. And a trick to remember. Manually setting the (apparent) focal length to save battery power. I mounted the 28-70 on the D30 last night along with the 550. Looking at the LCD display, it matched the lens focal length, using the well-known steps. It looks like the D30 doesn't have enough "smarts" to take the focal length multiplier into account for sending signals to the 550.
