Thanks for the report, Craig.

I'm considering this lens too. You mention you used 1Ns.
By chance, have you tried it on an A2? I'd want to get the
2x extender to get a 140-400 5.6, but Canon says the IS
won't work (with the 2x) because of the A2's old circuitry.

Here's the reply from Canon:

INQUIRY= Will the new 70-200 IS lens still retain IS
function when used with a 2x extender on an A2 body?

*********** Canon response as follows: *****

Thank you for your inquiry concerning the EOS A2 and new EF
IS lens with 2x extender. We would be glad to assist you
with this information.

The lenses will retain the Image Stabilizer function with
both extenders except fo the following:

EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM : IS will not function with the
EF 2.0x extenders and the following EOS bodies = EOS 650,
620, 630, RT, 700, 850, 1, A2/E, 10/s, Elan, Rebel/S, Rebel
II/S.

The IS will not function with the above combinations dues
to the design of the EOS circuitry used at the time these
EOS models were manufactured.

Canon EF extenders have a protruding front element that
will not fit with standard or non-"L" series lenses. The
useable "L" series lenses have a recessed rear element so
that it may fit with the Extenders. Additionally, Canon EF
Extenders are optically "matched" to the "L" series lenses.
This means there will be very little to no image
degradation when attached to these lenses.

Thank you for your interest in Canon. We look forward to
serving you in the future.

Best regards,

I've posed this question to this and other forums, and one
user of the new lens said the IS worked fine with a 2x on
his Elan. (the original) This of course, conflicts with
Canon's response.

Anyone have any first-hand experience with the new lens, a
2x and an A2 or other Type B body?

Thanks,
Green
