Thanks for your response.  I don't care for the sand bag approach since the
camera is not firmly attached to the tripod.  Any bump could result in a
disaster...  The Manfrotto mount looks interesting, but it doesn't appear to
permit vertical shots since it is fixed to the camera's tripod socket.
There doesn't appear to be room on the lens for a collar, although the IS
switch could be covered since it would never be turned on when used on a
tripod.  I'm just looking for a simple, "cheap" solution.
