Ok, as I don't own an Elan7 I cannot check that. Perhaps the entrance to
the sensors in the floor of the mirror box if visible trought the
semi-mirror and secondary mirror .

It could be a protection for not puting the finger trough the shutter
opening and breaking the curtains when closing.
Some cameras feature a switch, small and difficult to find, that is closed
when you close the film door. Perhaps you need to push that switch to make
the camera behave as it should.

In my EOS 500n (Rebel G), I just remove the lens, open the film door, and
push the shutter release in bulb.

I think that EOS 500n (Rebel G) mettering problems with M42 lenese over
f/2.8 is due to some kind of mirror vigneting. But I don't worry as at
f/2.8 or more closed (higher f/ number) the problem is gone.

The Elan7 mettering problem with non EF lenses is worse. It happens at all
apertures. No mettering mode change solves it.
I think that is something also related to the mirror, but don't know for sure.
