I am getting ready to do some shooting with the Elan7 and ST-E2 with several 420EX flashes. I understand that everything is hunkey dorey with the E-TTL metering throughout the system, however, I want to double check my ratios with an external incident meter. Some cases I would like to use and external spot meter as well.
My question is, is there a way to get the ST-E2 to either a) disable E-TTL or b) fire a test flash exactly as it would during the photo so I can double check with an external meter? The manual completely avoids this topic (I fear it is because this is not possible). The two obvious options are a) use the pilot to activate the flash or b) use the DoF Preview to activate the modeling flash. In both instances, this will not be the same flash power that is used during the exposure. The pilot light will use full power (I think) and E-TTL may alter the output and the modeling flash is a 1 sec burst at 70Hz; definately not what would be used in the actual exposure. Is there a solution to my problem? Thanks! Fair Winds and Following Seas, Branden R.
