I have the 28mm 1.8 and like the performance. I use it on my Canon D30 as a "normal" lens. If you look on the Photodo website, the 28-135 IS zoom has a better rating at the wide angle setting, than the 28mm f1.8 prime lens. A little while back I compared my prime lens at f3.5 to a friends 28-135mm IS at the 28mm setting and also at f3.5. The prime lens was much sharper and contrastier my a very large margin. Photodo numbers are a guide, but don't always represent what you'll find in the real world.
Overall I can't say that it's really sharp wide open, but quite good stopped down a few stops. I also like the way this lens handles.
