Peter, not true!! the new leica m 28/2 is very sharp wide open. also how do
you know that the new sigma is better optically!

Fast glass is always worst at widest apertures.  Whether
Canon, Leica, Zeiss etc. all lenses get better as they are
stopped down.  If you need the 1.8 then this is the lens for
you, if you primarily use the mid apertures then get a slower
lens which will perform equally or better at mid apertures.
The new 28mm F1.8 from Sigma may be better optically but
lacks a USM/HSM motor so it may be noisier.
