Hi

I have EF24/2.8 and have been waiting for a good opportunity
to get e.g. a second hand EF17-35/2.8L to get wider angles.
I'm not going to sell the EF24/2.8 because it is small and
optically good.
I like fast lenses because I like to photograph a lot in
available light which sometimes is quite low as you know.

But now in the local photo-shop there is the new Sigma 20/1.8
EX DG, second hand, but looks like new. Price is reasonable
enough (in here) 350 Euros (a bit less in USD), I think about
half of the new price.

So what I'm asking: USER COMMENTS, please. Especially about the
optical performance.

20/1.8 would make a nice lowlight kit with EF35/2 and EF100/2.
It is also a nice, close focusing, close-up lens. I know
also the possible incompatibility issues in the future.

They loaned the lens for the weekend for me to try so I'm able
to play with it.
If I want to take test shots (on slide) I need to take the lens
back before I get the slides back (and someone might buy it
meanwhile) unless I search for a 1 hour lab, but it is not a
major issue anyway.

When I compared it with my EF24/2.8 I noticed one difference.
If the sun shines in the lens the Sigma has more problems with
flare (often green ghost images). I need to check if that is a
problem still in normal room lighting.
Also the sliding focusing ring is only a halfway solution
because you still need to switch the M-AF switch as well.
Why didn't they combine the sliding focusing ring and the
switch may I ask...??

regards Vesa
