Hi Daniel,

When cleaning ANY of your EOS gear, do not put cleaning chemicals
directly
on the optics. Instead, put some on one part of the microfibre cloth, and
apply it to the glass. Then use another part of the cloth to dry the
glass.

A CPOL or POL filter is made of a glass/plastic/glass sandwich. NEVER
soak
such a filter as you can cause severe damage if liquid seeps into the
middle layer.

The beachtowel idea is a new one. I use a large (30cm x 40cm) microfibre
cloth for the EF 100-400 IS USM. Then again, there have been "strange"
cleaning devices described for EOS and Nikon gear, as previously
mentioned
on this list:

Cheers
Julian Loke
P.S. Daniel, please contact me off list about a used tripod I am selling.
