My 24mm and 28mm and 35mm (at f8) made very sharp 11x14 prints. Far better than any consumer zoom lens. I sold them for a 28-70 L because changing lens didn't fit my shooting needs. The 35mm on a Rebel body makes a very handy, very sharp combination for snapshoots with image quality. Overall, I prefer 35mm as a single lens than 50mm.
