In Singapore, the camera shops around Orchard are a tourist trap. There are a lot of hotels and tourists around Orchard, so these guys are still in business. Avoid these shops at all costs. Some of the best deals can be had at the "camera triangle", which is around Peninsula Plaza and Adelphi just near the City Hall MRT station. Some of the stores I shop at are Ruby Photo at Peninsula shopping centre, Cathay Photo and Fotoguide at Peninsula Plaza. These guys are the most reliable outlets in Singapore. Of course, you can bargain here too. Cathay has a website where you can get an e-quotation for anything you're looking for : http://www.cathayphoto.com.sg/ There are a lot of used camera shops around this area. Camera workshop (near Ruby Photo) has decent stuff at decent rates. Fotoguide closes at 7.30PM but is open on Sundays. Cathay and Ruby close at 7.00PM and are not open on Sundays. Cathay has another outlet at Marina Square which is open on Sundays, but no darkroom stuff there. | I bought a 28-70 at the shop at the top end of the complex (nearest MRT | station). They had a 400 f2.8 in the window last week. They seemed to be the | most professionally orientated shop around. I've seen the 400/2.8 there for many years now. Probably accumulated more than its fair share of dust by now.
